These Chainmail Gauntlets are inspired by an original artefact from the 16th century, The splinted plate cuffs, however, are absent in the original find. The gloves consist of butted rings (6 mm diameter each). The chain mail parts are sewn into gloves made of supple but firm suede leather.
The Butted Chainmail Gauntlets are made of steel over black suede leather. Chainmail covers just the top, leaving the underside unhindered for greater dexterity. The 17 gauge steel rings have a diameter of 6 millimeters. The butted rings have a traditional 4-in-1 weave. A 4-in-1 pattern consists of four chainmail rings woven through another ring. The weave occurs from the tip of each finger and all the way to the edge of the gauntlet. The edge of the gauntlet flares out and extends up past the wrist. These chainmail gloves are one size fits most, and they are sold as a pair.
These chainmail backed leather gauntlets with steel plates shield your wrists and the backs of your hands much more effectively than plain leather gauntlets. Gauntlets like these were worn from the Middle Ages and through the Renaissance period, so you can wear them with a wide range of garb and still be historically accurate. Great for re-enactment or training where you want the warmth and comfort of a glove, but with the additional armour protection.
